Majoring in Exercise Science
My Major & Career Goals
My Major
My major is Exercise Science. Exercise Science is an umbrella term used to describe the study of numerous aspects of physical activity, exercise, sport, and athletic performance that have the common characteristic of movement and the adaptations that occur as a result of physical activity and regular exercise. I choose to major in Exercise Science because I want to become an Athletic Trainer. I could have gone into an undergraduate program for Athletic Training but I chose Exercise Science because I don't just want to have a background in Athletic Training. I want to do so much more and being in this program will get me there, especially with all the service-learning opportunities I've experienced. Choosing this major will help me get a step closer to what I want to become.
My Career Goals
My career goal has changed a little bit since freshman year. I still want to be an Athletic Trainer but I also want to be a Strength & Conditioning Coach, as well as a Sports Nutritionist. My #1 career goal is to become an Athletic Trainer. An athletic trainer supports the optimal athletic performance of an individual athlete or a team of athletes. This includes recommending exercise and nutrition programs, modeling safe and effective exercise techniques, intervening early and effectively to prevent injury and timely recommendation of injury recovery techniques. This career goal of mine is meaningful to me because I want to be the best of the best on the team of athletic trainers for the Colts. Having a broad background in strength & conditioning along with sports nutritionist behind my name will shape me into a great athletic trainer.
